I write to keep from going mad from the contradictions I find among mankind - and to work some of those contradictions out for myself. If ordinary people complain that I speak too much of myself, I complain that they do not even think of themselves. - Michel de Montaigne

once upon a time...

19 November 1993, a baby girl was delivered. Bridget. That’s her name. ‘A very girlish name,’ says the father. She was born normal like other babies. Families from every corner of the world knew about the born baby. Smile on their faces can’t really describe how glad they were to have a baby girl in their family. Especially Bridget’s parents. They were so thankful they had her.

Day by day Bridget grows with great health. She went to kindergarten and that was when everything started, literally.

She started cheating and bullying other kids. It’s nothing serious because she cheated on her kindergarten test. She pretends to find her colour pencils in her bag but she’s actually looking for answers to her test. She’s very smart at cheating at her age. She bullies kid like Brian, who is very weird looking. She was not alone; she and her friends did that. A very brave action at a very young age, bullying other kids. Everything that she did in kindergarten was unknown to her parents because Bridget was a good girl when she’s at home.

Then, she enters a primary school. She did very well. No bullying & cheating. Maybe she changed, maybe not. Everything was fine until she was in Primary Four. She finds herself much uncontrolled. She just wants attention from her friends because she feels like no one wants to be friend with her. She thought she had a best friend but she was wrong. When she was in Primary Two, the teacher wants her to write names on the blackboard if anyone makes noise while the teacher is out. And yes, she did write names on the blackboard including her ‘best friend’s’ name. But, she wasn’t aware that her friends didn’t like that. She was alone during recess. She learnt something that day; to not do something like writing her friends name even they were noisy. She started losing her one and only friend, Lola, when she was in Primary Five. Lola met Britney who has the same interest. They were together the whole time and Bridget was left alone. Since then, she craves for more attention. She needs someone, a friend but no one wants to be her friend. Luckily, she was still naive and thinks that it was normal until at one stage she tries to break Lola and Britney friendship. She tells fake stories to Britney about Lola but her attempt was never successful. Bridget just kept quiet until she finished her primary school.
